Free Wi-Fi For Students Re-launched

In a significant move that will bridge the digital divide that has for so long plagued the Govt. Saiha College and its operation, free broadband / wi-fi services were restored for use in Govt. Saiha College. Since the inception of Internet And Website Committee, active steps have been taken to address this issue of communication gap and backwardness. On January 28, 2016, in a function attended by the Students and Faculty members, the Principal of the College inaugurated the BSNL Broadband / Wi-fi connection for use freely by the students. Under the NATIONAL MISSION ON EDUCATION THROUGH INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (NMEICT) the College subscribed 10 BSNL Broadband connections at a subsidized rate, each of which would otherwise cost about Rs. 630 /- per month had it been a regular connection. These connections had all been lying unusable for years, and the benefits not enjoyed. Now, with these connections up and running once again, students can avail of this free internet through their mobile phones and other devices from the campus after they punch in the passwords, as these 10 connections are sending out wi-fi signals from Students' Union room and College Library. It has been learnt that not many Govt. Colleges in Mizoram are able to offer such free services available to their students.
