Curricular Activities at Government Saiha College
Students of the College are active both in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. As such, whenever there are sports and games, interdepartmental competition, social activities in collaboration with the society, the students show interest and take part in it. They also take part in quiz competition, debate, essay competition held at district level and state level.

Seminars:

Two seminars were conducted in Govt. Saiha College during 2008-2009. Steps are being taken to conduct seminars/workshops in the College Other seminars and workshop might be conducted in near future.

Social Activity:

Most of the teaching and non-teaching staff are actively involved in NGO’s such as YMA, MTP, KTP church activities etc. which contribute valuable services to the society. Some of these Associate Professors who have been involved in NGO’s organized relief camps in cyclone affected villages.

NSS also organizes programmes like “Legal awareness campaign”, ‘literacy Campaign’, ‘Aids awareness campaign’, ‘Cleanliness Drive’, “Blood Donation Camp” etc. at the village level and district level to make the people aware of the problems of the present world and to prepare them to protect themselves against such eventualities.

Health Services:

Health services such as sanitation, cleanliness drive, Aids Awareness Campaign etc. were conducted in the College. It also observed, “No Tobacco Week” to make the public aware of the harmful effect that smoking brings in. Posters were made and pasted along the roadside walls to attract the attention of the public and to take note of it to give up smoking.

Red Ribbon Club organized RRC, an “Awareness Campaign on HIV/AIDS and Tobacco Control” on 14-7-2010 by Mr. T. Lalsawmliana,(Associate Professor, Department of Pol.Science) Nodal Officer, Red Ribbon Club. Representatives of “Tobacco Control Society” from Aizawl participated and delivered valuable speech on the harmful effect of Tobacco. Dr. K. Zohra, Associate Professor, Department of History also presented a paper on “AIDS and Students”.

Performance in Sports:

Students as well as teachers participated in sports activities and inter-department activities held at Saiha and at Aizawl.

Incentives to Outstanding Performer:

Best boy and best girl among the students were selected on the basis of their performance in curricular, extra and co-curricular activities. Apart from these, their sincerity, punctuality, attitude towards the institution and the teachers were taken into consideration while selecting a person for giving incentives.

HC Elisa, a Badminton and Table Tennis player who, in the Inter-College sport meet in 2009 at Aizawl, won a Gold Medal. So the “Students Support and Progression’ subcommittee requested the Principal to give her admission free of cost for the session 2010-2011 and it was accepted.

Blood Donation:

In order to help the needy persons and to work with the community, Red Ribbon Club, Govt. Saiha College, had organized ‘Blood-Donation Camp’ two times during the reporting year. Many students and Associate Professors donated their valuable blood.
